Automating the Grid: Why Our Local-First Simulation Framework Won 2nd Place at CWIEME Berlin 2026
We are proud to share that our browser-based grid simulation and compliance automation framework has been awarded the Runner-up (2nd Place) position in the prestigious Future Engineers Award at CWIEME Berlin 2026!
Organized in partnership with Hitachi, the Future Engineers Award recognizes the next generation of engineers and showcases standout projects that display clear innovation and strong industry relevance. We want to extend our congratulations to the 2026 winner, Raj Manoj Bag, as well as the other category winners. For this recognition, Clifford Omari Ondieki was awarded high-level branded merchandise and a Transformer Academy course.
Sharing the stage with tier-one Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and leading grid researchers was a profound validation of our core mission: bringing physics-based simulation directly to the browser edge.
The Core Problem: The compliance audit bottleneck
Traditional power system engineering is slow. Compliance validation for renewable energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) under new standards like VDE-AR-N 4110 / 4120 (Draft 2026) is a manual, risk-prone process.
Planners and developers must:
- Export grid data into heavy, localized desktop clients (like DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
- Manually coordinate multiple scenarios.
- Deal with long feedback loops, slowing down grid connections to a crawl.
This manual friction creates a massive bottleneck for BESS and solar integration, delaying the energy transition.
The Winning Solution: Browser-based, local-first simulation
Our award-nominated framework solves this bottleneck by decoupling heavy numerical solvers from desktop installations and shifting execution straight into the browser edge.
- Local-First Numerical Solver: Built with lightweight, high-performance numerical libraries using Iwamoto Newton-Raphson solvers.
- Fast-Track Compliance: Automates the compliance validation from CIM/XML file ingestion, simulating grid stability directly on the user's machine without server roundtrips.
- Offline Resilience: With advanced PWA protocols, our tools run completely offline, allowing engineers on-site at substations to perform compliance audits without internet connection.
This architecture reduces compliance validation timelines from weeks to less than a minute.
